Oftentimes, the best way to find a great job is through the people that you know. You'd be amazed at the number of people who get jobs via referrals. Companies are even paying their employees to refer people to their company!

As one of the best staffing agencies in Houston TX, Clayton Services has experience in helping job seekers utilize and leverage their personal relationships to find a job. Here are some of things to consider doing when utilizing your network to find a job:

Make a list

No job search is complete without a plan. Write down the types of roles/positions, companies, and industries that you're interested in. This will help you shape your job search and zero in on what you're looking for. Once you have identified your goals, you will be better prepared to start reaching out to your friends, family members, business contacts, classmates, etc. to find a job.

Utilize LinkedIn and social media

LinkedIn is one of the best tools to figure out who you need to reach out to. Scroll through your connections and see what companies they are working for and what their job titles are. Make sure to write down the name of your connection that works for an attractive company so that you can reach out to them.

Research and reach out

Once you've identified who you would like to contact make sure that you carefully craft your pitch. You'll want to do some research on prospective companies to make sure that you have some background knowledge before you reach out. When you contact your connection make sure that you express why you're looking for a job and why you want to work for their company. Most importantly, make sure you mention what you will bring to the table.

Follow-up

Let's face it, emails and conversations oftentimes fall through the cracks. Following up with the people that you've reached out to is absolutely vital to finding a job through your network. It is very easy to get tied up in a workday and forget to forward a resume or put in a good word. Following up will show that you're serious about landing a job at their company. Don't forget to say thank you!

Prep for your interview

It's time to prepare for a potential interview. Go on the internet and search some commonly asked interview questions. Think about how you would answer certain questions and be prepared to describe your greatest work-related accomplishments. Look over your resume and double check for any errors. Being adequately prepared for an interview will reduce your anxiety and allow you to shine once you get the call.

As one of the premier staffing agencies in Houston TX, Clayton Services knows that not everyone will be able to utilize their network to find a jobs.
